Beloved Students:

I greet you this month in the wonder of the Divine expanding infinitely before and all around you. May you each experience the miraculous opening to you in every moment, and may you celebrate richly this wonderful display of creativity.

How do you experience the presence of the Divine in the little moment-to-moment parcels of your life? How aware are you of infinite grace being poured out upon you in each, with virtually every breath you take? How do you experience your connection to your Source? I am asking these questions not in some rhetorical way, but for your honest and genuine consideration.

For many of you, life in the 21st Century seems pretty demanding, chaotic and hectic. Often, it seems that all demanding, chaotic and hectic energies come from outside yourself, and if you are like many of your 21st Century friends, there seems no end to how life plays you. However, sometimes in all the craziness of trying to manage more and more elements, you may forget some of the most basic and really important things. For example: What actually sustains you through all the chaos? While it may seem that you sustain yourself, perhaps it is a good idea to rethink the matter. For many of you, the demanding, chaotic, frenetic ways you move from moment to moment have become habituated, and what you may miss (and subsequently forget to be grateful for) is what actually sustains you through the onslaught.

Do you still believe that your physical, emotional and mental energy comes from the food you eat or the number of hours you sleep? While these things are clearly important for driving your body through life, they are not actually what sustains you. When you consider the power and infinite adaptability of Life Force itself, you can perhaps touch the element of mystery divinely encoded within that profound force. How often do you contemplate that mystery? When you think of the creative power of that Life Force moving through your body and your mind, is it not a wondrous miracle for which to be infinitely grateful?

I have noticed that often, many completely take for granted the miracle of Life Force moving through their bodies and minds. It vivifies all the systems of the physical body; it generates the bio-electrical energy that stimulates the heartbeat, causes the neurons to fire, carrying messages from the brain to virtually every part of your body, as well as causing cognition. Without Life Force, none of these amazing systems would work, nor would your body be able to heal itself from cuts, injuries and broken bones. There would be no possible way of recovering from surgery without the continuing sustenance of that unseen power you call Life Force. When did you last contemplate it?

Even more to the point, where does Life Force come from? How did it ever manage to take up residence in the little gestating blob of protoplasm in your mother’s belly that ultimately became you – or what you call your body/mind? How is Life Force able to support life and consciousness over and over again, living cell after living cell, asking relatively little in return for its services? When did you last contemplate the miracle of being, being alive, and being aware?

The notion of the Divine indwelling one’s own body/mind is, for many, little more than a conceptual exercise. That is to say, one may recognize that indeed the Divine indwells everything in nature, of which he/she does consider herself/himself to be a part. However, these same ones may have no experience of the Divine indwelling them, and consequently feel no need or urge to cherish It in the form of their own body. While some may imagine that others may experience this Presence supporting the Life Force that sustains life, still, they may have no sense of such for themselves. Herein lies the real tragedy, for this one is not likely to sit with the profound mystery of the miracle of Life, nor open fully to the grace offered to them by the spiritual plane. Unable to explore the miraculous in their own life, they are not likely to open themselves to profound experiences with the numinous forces that also abound.

Now, of course, we are wandering into the territory of the inexplicable, the territory that leaves the space of linear thought and discursive construct. While all are welcome here, none can travel here on the power of the left brain, for this realm is the consummate storehouse of Mystery. But it is here (though not a physical place) that one may experience the Divine. This “place” is a state of consciousness (entered through, but not contained by, right brain functions) that is able to perceive the dimension of the Divine, as It co-mingles with the physical realm.

Indeed, the physical and numinous realms are not separate, but are exchanging creative flow at all times, in all ways imaginable. It is in the numinous realm that you discover how profoundly supported and loved you really are. Here resides the seat (or throne) of your True Nature. You could say that the numinous realm is where all arises out of Emptiness – the sacred Emptiness that holds all potentiality but is bound by no definition, no type of cognition. Indeed, the numinous realm is totally inexplicable and incomprehensibly luminous

The great Mystery is that you are walking in the numinous realm all the time. You are surrounded by it, supported by it, sustained by it, and called forth by it. Something contains and enfolds you with infinite love and compassion. Something is always supporting you – going before you, behind you, beneath you and above you, quietly loving you into becoming all that you can become. Something (or perhaps Someone) is gently offering you more grace than you can imagine (indeed, few can imagine it – that’s one reason that they do not experience it) to facilitate you in your journey to wholeness. At the moment of your death, you will be swept up by this Something, or Someone, and you will be suspended in and permeated by the most profound love you can possibly imagine - no, actually the love is far more than one can imagine while in physical form.

This field of Incomprehensible Love is the Power that generates Life Force. So infinite is this field of love, so abundant this creative magnificence, It generously supports everything you experience as living - not only in this current life of yours, but in all past and future lives as well. It is through this Incomprehensible Love that all beings everywhere are beautifully, indeed magnificently, connected. This great Field is the path to your Source and holds within Its creative eminence every grace, every blessing imaginable for utterly countless billions of evolving expressions of the Divine to come forth again and again with such abundance. How long has it been since you have contemplated that miracle?

What is really needed among sentient beings at this time is to literally learn (or should I say “re-learn”) to fall in love with the Divine? Such, dear friends, is the only way to enter the realm of the numinous. This love is not a cognitive exercise. It is what all the great mystics and saints of all traditions learned to “fall into,” allowing it to completely own them. No matter how many spiritual practices you run through on a daily basis, they are without potency if the great field of Love is absent from your heart. Fortunately, your hearts are much bigger than they appear, for they are capable of containing the entire universe, as well as the field of Incomprehensible Love from which it arose.

Please join me this month in listening to the teaching I gave in Denver on August 1st of this year, called Loving the Divine. May you use the practice given to aid you in finding your way to literally falling in love with the Source of your being. May you understand perhaps more fully the creative expanse you call “God,” and may your lives be blessed a thousand-fold for your courage and willingness to be molded by the field of Incomprehensible Love that brought you forth.
