Beloved Students:
I greet you today in the glow of a newly signed contract for the book you have all been calling forth, The Matter of Mind (An Explorer’s Guide to the Landscape of the Mind). I am writing to you from Flagstaff, Arizona where a meeting with Light Technology Publishing occurred yesterday, and remarkably, both a contract and a relationship have commenced that should yield a long and satisfying relationship for both parties. I will also be submitting monthly articles to the publication “Sedona Journal of Emergence!”
Please join me at this auspicious time by increasing your energetic support for the planet (as we expand our efforts for this Year of Service) and for VFF as this door of greater world service opens to us. Those of you wanting access to the coming articles, as well as this new interface with the world, may subscribe to the above journal via internet, by going to www.lighttechnology.com Please join me, as well, in affirming that the new book will be in print by late spring or early summer this year. Indeed, we have much to celebrate!
For our work this month, I would like to bring before your consciousness, a deeper understanding of the word “vajra,” for as an organization bearing the energetics of the word in our very name, it seems important to have as deep an understanding as possible as to just what the sound vibration of the word carries. As most of you know, one of the translations for “vajra” is “diamond.” When translating the word thus, we often think of the qualities of a diamond. In this case, we think of its hardness, and how, because of that hardness, it cuts through many other materials. In like manner, at a spiritual level, we think of applying the cutting-through quality to personal limitations and patterns of distortion, as well as mental projections. In referring to this quality, we often use the word, “indestructibility,” for such is a desirable quality when applied to faith, spiritual effort, tenacity, and steady mind – even allegiance to one’s own enlightenment.
Another quality associated with a diamond is its remarkable clarity. When light is refracted through a particularly pure diamond, its ability to provide brilliant rainbows through what is called “chromatic aberration,” or breaking white light into its full spectrum, is stunning to behold. This quality results in the “fire in the stone” about which jewelers and gemologists speak. As applied to the developing consciousness of the spiritual aspirant, these qualities are helpful for raising her/his consciousness to a higher vibration, or level of perception. The vajra energy provides both the indestructibility needed for grounded faith in the path, as well as the solid foundation necessary for transformation into higher realms of consciousness. Further, the diamond, metaphorically, offers the possibility of pristine clarity. Thus vajra energy can also be seen as clarifying energy, or that which exposes non-clarity to the pure light of consciousness, thereby allowing for the possibility of clarifying that which was previously unclear.
While these are qualities I have previously brought before you, I would like to go a bit deeper in defining the powerful vajra energy. As some of you may have already encountered in your reading of spiritual texts (particularly those from the East), another meaningful translation of vajra is “thunderbolt.” Often, this definition may be over-looked or even discarded, since at first glance this terminology may seem at odds with concepts of “pristine clarity” and “indestructibility.” The term “thunderbolt” may conjure up images of Ben Franklin and his kite, or lightning in the night sky. But how can this be attributed to vajra energy – particularly in the realm of spiritual development?
If we carefully consider the business of realizing enlightenment, however, the “thunderbolt” definition is quite apt, since clarity may often strike one as a “slap in the face,” so to speak, or a jolting (i.e., sudden awakening ) from some asleep state. When one’s personal “reality” is suddenly shaken from the roots upward, one can say s/he has experienced the thunderbolt. In my own training, this was actually a sought-after experience. Now I realize that in the modern western world most people actually try to avoid, or protect against, this kind of experience. However, I think it is wise to offer this matter some real scrutiny, rather than just categorical rejection as a means of fending off egoic discomfort. After all, if one truly desires enlightenment, then it is probably wise to repress egoic attempts to control the method that ushers it in.
In truth, vajra energy is the proverbial “in your face” type of energy. How else can clarity come forth? When you consider that most people have carried karmic patterns of seeing and being for lifetimes, the force needed to break the trance is often a strong one. What better way to ensure waking up than the jolt of the thunderbolt? In the I Ching, the 50th hexagram is often called “Shocking.” When this energy is in your life, it gets your attention rather like a loud crack of unexpected lightning. There is a shattering of the mind state that existed prior to the loud crash, and the resulting instant exchange of electric particles may even make one’s hair stand on end.
Since our Vajra Flame Foundation was founded in 2004, numbers of you have noticed that some of your personal lessons have occurred in sudden jolts with such amazing power as to totally eradicate your prior condition. Some of you have had surprising and shocking moments wherein you were startled, or suddenly jolted without warning, into a rarefied, awakened state. The force of the arising events may have provoked your attention in ways you could not previously imagine. Suddenly, the new situation upon you required your full attention, and commanded your complete presence in the moment. Whether in matters of health, well being, relationship, functional capacity or other areas, you found yourself caught and held by circumstances that would not let your focus deviate from the situation at hand.
Often, this kind of shocking experience confronts the ego with what it may interpret as betrayal, even though the growth that ultimately results from the experience bears witness to a greater reality opening to you. These kinds of experiences are clear examples of a thunderbolt strike in your life. Of course, thunderbolts may be of lesser intensity, as well, but I think it is wise to heed the fact that as part of an organization that carries the vajra energy in its name, it might serve you well to pay particular attention to areas in your life (if you can discern them) that might be charged enough to attract the thunderbolt.
Please join me this month in listening to The Thunderbolt and Bodhichitta, a lecture I recently recorded as part of our year of service. It is my hope that this lesson will not only help you in your personal awakening, but will take you deeper into the practice of bodhichitta, as well. It is likely you will discover areas in your own life that are ripe for your Bodhichitta practice, as well as lead you to a deeper appreciation of the profound benefit your practice plays in the liberation of sentient beings from the types of suffering so abundant in the world around you.
May you have this day a thousand blessings, and may you discover happiness and peace caressing you as you dedicate your every action for the benefit of Earth.
