Beloved Students:
I greet you in the joy of the soon-to-be-realized Earth Healing Day. As you are likely aware by this time, we have a wonderful opportunity to give back to planet Earth. I know each of you will want to prepare yourself for the grand event on August 15, 2010, by participating in the meditation offered as a gift at www.EarthHealingDay.com. May you not only enjoy this meditation, may it be your consciously acknowledged privilege to offer it on behalf of your planetary Mother. May your heart be opened to your Earth Mother, as you offer Her your profound love and devoted support as She faces the many present challenges to Her health and well-being.
The recorded lesson I recently created for you (A Piece of “Herstory”) is dedicated to the full recovery of Earth’s precious health. As She struggles with the toxic overload to Her body from humanity’s lack of worthy stewardship, remember Her struggle in your prayers and meditations. Never take for granted the precious gifts She offers to all her offspring. Become fully aware of your dependence upon Her, and rise to do your utmost to restore Her former glory!
How do you show your love for Earth? Is your loving more of the conceptual type or the active type? In other words, do you just know that you love Earth, and think little more of the fact, or do you actively seek out opportunities where you can be of some service to Earth? For example, how often do you pick up the rubbish that others have carelessly discarded upon the Mother’s body? How often do you offer a drink of water to Her plants and little wild ones? How often do you talk to Her?
These, of course, represent small ways in which you can show your love for Her. There are larger ways, as well. This you do when you contribute money to organizations that provide the resources, including the people-force, to clean up Her body, or offer support and comfort to the living beings damaged by disastrous storms and wildfires, or “storms” of human negligence and exploitation. Unfortunately for the planet, the human-induced storms are often the most costly to Her, producing planetary conditions that are the most difficult to rectify. Further, the ambient radioactive particles infecting Earth’s atmosphere offer irrefutable proof of humanity’s sojourn on this beautiful planet.
Because this is such a powerful time of arising karma, it is therefore also a time for great vigilance over your precious minds. Whenever a powerful configuration of creative energy manifests (in this case karma), as it arises in the world, it must also arise in your own consciousness. While it may not appear exactly the same in these two arenas, if you are able to objectively look at what arises in your mind, you will surely detect some connection to what arises in the world.
In this month’s recorded lecture, I attempt to draw a “connecting of the dots” between the current war in Afghanistan and those of the Crusades. While I do realize that most of you have not thought much about the Crusades and Inquisitions waged so long ago, perhaps it is time to reveal the energy that connects them. Now, I do realize that most of you are not “sitting on pins and needles” to glean this morsel of wisdom. However, it seems to me that there is little hope of stretching beyond the non-clarity in the relationship between Western mentality and Middle Eastern mentality without understanding this piece. Indeed, that non-clarity has lingered far too long, exacting a horrific toll in Herstory.
This month, we will focus a bit on the story Gaia might tell, of her physical birth and her journey into physical form of planet Earth. Know that Gaia is much more than simply the “third rock from the sun.” She is a living being and She is conscious. Her consciousness, however, is not exactly like yours. Hers is a collective consciousness, meaning that Her consciousness is comprised of all the smaller consciousness factors (or pieces) that ever have, are, or likely will, take physical birth on Her hospitable surface.
If that last sentence seems impossible to you, simply allow your mental focus to release its linear confines and go vaster. Remember, when you escape the holding cell of time and space, many things become possible that seemed impossible at a previous level of understanding. Let your mind play “outside the box” a bit and see what you can learn.
When you can readily grasp that the linear focus used while in physical form can only open a few of the doors to vaster consciousness, I am certain you will want to discover new ways of seeing what you call “reality,” and applying that new seeing to past lessons learned. Such is perfect for coming to understand “Herstory.” As you seek to understand the planetary journey from the planet’s perspective, sooner or later you will need to throw off the bonds of linearity. What you are now developing is greater aptitude for perceiving yourself and the world around you. Remember: things are seldom as they seem!
When you contemplate the Mystery of the birth of a planet, more specifically, your planet, you may find that you will be utterly “transported” by the power of awe. (If you do not find yourself “awed” by such contemplation, you simply have not contemplated this mystery enough!) But further, it is simply impossible to fully appreciate the rapturous potential of entering a field of Mystery without the presence of awe. Awe, however, has no significance in and of itself. It must be experienced fully to activate its creative potential. Thus, your task is to seek it out, enter it and allow yourself to be transformed by it. Mentally, go after it as if your utter beingness depended on your understanding this great Mystery. It is, after all, the Mystery of Life.
Herstory, or the saga of Gaia’s journey through physical existence, is both filled and surrounded with the presence of awe. This is true of the Mystery of Her birth, of Her tumultuous and chaotic “body” (Her landmass) transformations, and of Her various epochs and ages. Indeed, Her spiritual journey is certainly not less “awesome” than is her physical journey. It is, in fact, the presence of awe that designates something as a Mystery. You see, this energy (awe) is already in place. You need not create it; you have only to experience it. As you do, you will be touched by the profound nature of What Is.
If you can enter the Mystery of Earth, you can also enter the healing of Earth. Thus, allow yourselves to be filled with awe, that your Essence might be ignited with the fire of transformation, and literally ablaze with what has been called the “Fire of the Spirit.” Awaken to the presence of that fire burning incessantly within your mind. It will transform you in more ways than I can possibly innumerate in this short article.
Now, how will you know when the Fire of the Spirit has ignited your heart and mind? (Indeed, most of you are currently not “on fire” in the way I’m referring to here.) Truly, you must possess a certain level of spiritual wakefulness to be “ignitable.” With the presence of fire, you see, there must always abide a quotient of urgency. In fact, often it is the sensing of an internal quality of urgency that indicates the presence of that spiritual fire burning away in one’s heart and mind.
Certainly, anyone familiar with the Hebrew prophets of old will recognize the presence of urgency in both their messages and their presentation. It was also present in the apostles of Jesus, particularly in the example and the teachings of St. Paul. Had you been among the peer group of Gautama (who became the Buddha), you would have seen great urgency in His leaving His family, His searching out the most eminent teachers of His day. You would have seen it in the austerities he practiced with urgent rigor and ultimately, you would have seen it in His sitting down beneath a bodhi tree and refusing to move until He accomplished His enlightenment.
In working with spiritual aspirants today, however, it often appears that for many, the Fire of the Spirit has been quenched. Indeed, spiritual aspirants possessing a sense of urgency today tend to be seen as aberrant by mainstream seekers. I notice that quite a few of my students have very little, if any, urgency as we move toward Earth Healing Day. Oh, the concept seems like a good idea, but there is little urgency to offer help in contacting the masses, or inviting people to the workshop. To most, it just seems like someone else should do that part.
Many of you do feel very bad about the oil in the Gulf of Mexico, but I see no urgency in your meditations, no “fire in your belly” to make Earth Healing Day a planetary success. It simply seems like it is enough to show up somewhere for the “OM-ing,” as some of you call it, but that the rest is just up to the planet, the Spiritual Teachers, or someone else.
As your Teacher, I would like to see you all experience a fiery urgency in your spiritual practice, in your blessing the planet, in the cleaning up of your karma, even in the way you arise from sleep each morning. By this I mean you would get up each morning with purpose. You need not be frenetic or even intense. (Often, people become intense when they work/interact with others who have less sense of urgency than they have.) Rather than being frenetic, uptight, intense or under pressure, simply feel some urgency to make each day of your life count for something – for the planet, for your enlightenment, even for another person. Just make every day count. So be it
